Find the Motivation – Start today

Where the hell is it!? Well actually it’s obvious, you know it too. But still too many of my mates question me about how and why I keep training as much as I do with enthusiasm-  An amateur like me doesn’t need to tell you, however I’ll remind you.

Why does anyone need motivation? We all need it when the task at hand is not inviting at the time and can find plenty of reasons to outweigh the reason to carry out the initial task – Procrastination is one word of it, but there are endless ways to describe it…

The task is not inviting? Well you need to think seriously here and imagine or write down a list of the reasons why you should do it and why you want to do – after all we are trying to achieve your aim here. There must be a reason why you want to do whatever you set out to do.

You must have a goal! Short term ones and Long term. Make them up and stick to them. Never ever give up on them.

Because this blog is all based on sport and training then all posts will be on that theme – the ideas are easily applicable to achieve anything initially perceived as ‘hard work’

  • Write down your goal
  • Make it a habit/new routine part of your life
  • Find ways to make it fun.
  • Recognise and appreciate all benefits, big and small.

No one likes to be told what to do, which is why I’ve put off getting a coach for so long.

Don’t do it for me, do it for yourself. The very next morning before work, school, or whatever – wake up early! Say 45mins before you normally get up. Get up quickly (before negative thoughts have a chance), chuck on some appropriate clothing and get active.

Reward yourself for your efforts. Not saying a tub of ice cream is a good idea… (I’ve done it plenty of times though).

A reward can be as simple as feeling good and being happy with yourself and your achievement, knowing that you have one up on those who don’t try, through to fulfilling those cravings.  You decide, you’re the boss. But use common sense too.

Do it because you want to, not because you need to.

Now get started.
